Introduction

  • Founded 1985
  • ISO9001 Approved
  • Secure Development Environment
  • Secure Manufacturing Environment

The present company Chairman founded Data Encryption Systems Limited in 1985. The systems and methods employed by the company originated within the British Government Communications Headquarters.

Early systems were sold into the UK Government to provide secure data-communication channels between overseas offices including British Embassies worldwide.

Later systems enabled high-speed secure multi-channel satellite communications and encryption modules for Modems and other equipment.

Over the past twelve years DES has also marketed the DESkey and DESlock range of software protection products. With an estimated 500,000 units in use throughout the world to date, sales of the DESkey continue to grow.

With a growing demand for system design and development services, DES became the first software security supplier to achieve ISO9001 accreditation. This approval covers design, development, manufacture and service and has helped the R+D arm of the business (DES Research) to prosper.

Business Activities

DES provides a range of services from "off the shelf" software security products to complete design and manufacture projects.

Business Research

DES began in business by working with larger organisations to develop secure data-communication products. The DES Research development team cover an range of disciplines and are able to respond to business opportunities better than many large organisations.

Business Technology

To enable our customers to build proven security into their own hardware we are able to integrate our systems at a component level.

As part of a development contract, DES can design and supply:

  • Custom sub assemblies, coded and tested.
  • Flashed/masked micro's, coded and tested for assembly on the host system board.
  • DES ASIC products, coded and tested for assembly on the host system board.
  • We can also integrate DES and customer code at a firmware level for maximum security.

Business Consulting

Over time we have seen many different implementations of our products and systems. Our telephone support is free of charge, however many customers prefer for us to review in depth the way in which they have employed our systems in the protection of their software and data.

To facilitate our recommendations we provide DES staff on a contract basis to provide the following services:

  • System security review and report with full recommendations.
  • Complete implementation of DESkey, through DESkey API and DESlock with report on protection methods.
  • Programming management and tracking software written as part of a customer's application. This is available for DESkey, DESlock and DESnet.
  • System design consulting.
  • Secure process engineering.
  • License management, planning and implementation.
  • Attending meetings to advise upon security strategy and methods.
